Passing the Baton

Dear WCS family,

As some of you may have heard, I am retiring from my role as Principal of WCS this year.

I remember the first days of WCS like it was yesterday – our new students, parents, and staff meeting each other for the first time, all of us determined to create a space where students of all ages can experience Chinese language, arts, and culture.

In the blink of an eye, 13 years have passed. The WCS community has grown, bringing new faces and programs each year. Some of our elementary school students in 2009 have graduated college and entered the workforce. And somewhere in there, between the countless classes, performances, and laughs we’ve shared together, we’ve become a true family.

I head into retirement now with a potpourri of emotions, but more than anything, I feel thankful. Thankful to have worked alongside the most brilliant and committed group of teachers and staff I’ve seen in my 20+ years as an educator. Thankful for the warmth, hard work, and positive energy our parents and students bring each week, even through a pandemic. And thankful to be able to call so many of you my closest, lifelong friends. My heart is so full, and I feel so lucky.

I believe that WCS’s best days are yet to come. I’ve had the honor and pleasure of working with Jieping for many years now, and am beyond confident that her capable leadership will take our school to new heights. I’m grateful for the journey that got us here, and look forward to seeing the success that lies ahead.

Finally, as I take my leave, I would like to recognize and express my sincerest thank you to two people who have also served these 13 years with me.  Eric Huang, Treasurer and Helen Gee, Operations Manager will also be retiring.

With love and gratitude,

Yenchu (陳銀珠)
